This little house - was in a residential section of Meissen, Germany. We had several hours to walk the town and explore. There were lots of narrow little streets with shops, the huge castle/church at the top of the hill, a smaller church in the center of the village, and people exploring everywhere.

I remember roaming thru the streets, at times with different groups of friends - and other times alone.

How true it is . . . that when we are alone - we are so inward drawn - looking around us only to see how things relate to 'me' and 'my world.' But when we travel with friends we have a larger view of the world. We see how places and circumstances are viewed through another set of eyes - affecting another set of circumstances.

As often as I find myself, loving to be a hermit, enclosed in my own little world, we were not made to live life that way.

How refreshing it is to open the windows and let in the 'fresh air' - and see others - and ourselves with another set of eyes.

In the medieval town of Dinklesbuhl, Germany, there was an ancient church with an awesome steeple. If you survived walking up the enclosed staircase, you were rewarded with an amazing view of the beautiful town surrounded by a wall.

I paid the fee and began the trek. What you see in the photo is exactly what I experienced. I get the same claustrophobic enclosed feeling - looking at the photo - as I did when I was enclosed in the cement stairway.

It was very narrow, perhaps 6.5 feet in height. You could only see this tiny bit at a time. Heaven forbid - someone was coming down while you were going up. There was room for only one.

My claustrophobia won out - and I turned around and went back down - thankful and grateful for the freedom of being out side.

When I found this quote this morning - I immediately thought of this photo. How often we give up on something so worthwhile - because of our fears and because of our little faith.

Oh - that my faith would grow - and don't miss out on the unseen - because of my fears.

When I read this quote this morning - all I could think of was the great number of people who were "shining the Light" yesterday, by covering my husband in prayer during his surgery.

We have all heard the saying, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going," meaning of course that when times get difficult, people who can - tough it out and endure.

The going has been tough this last year for my H, culminating in the surgery yesterday. I am so grateful for the many friends and family who stepped up to the plate to encourage and hold us up in prayer - helping us to endure the uncertainties.

Time will tell if this surgery will in fact, take care of all the issues he has been dealing with this past year. But how grateful I am for the large circle of family who allowed the Light to shine from within, by caring and supporting us.

Matthew 5:14-16: You are the light of the world, A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Today we are praising God for for you and for His faithfulness.

I love to watch raptors fly in the sky...

Soar with their wings...

Glide on the wind.

They are so powerful.

I was so excited when I captured this photo of the red tailed hawk, a long while back. I just happened to be passing by my favorite hawk watching spot - when there it was. Just sitting on the power line. I had my camera with me - so I stopped on the side of the road and walked right under where it was - to snap a few (you know me better than that - it was more like a hundred) shots of this powerful bird.

I remember being very frightened. Hawks are scary. They attack. They can hurt you, if you get in their way. This one was watching me very closely. I felt exposed. I felt vulnerable. When I got back in the car I felt safe again. Funny how that bird - less than half the size of me, could create such fear.

Fear can be overwhelming, but only when we allow ourselves to be so open to it. Only when we keep our eyes, and hearts and minds focused on it and not on God.

So, what happens when we put our eyes back on God? What happens when we are totally focused on His power to overcome that which is so overwhelming to us?

We see that He IS the one in control. He is the ALL POWERFUL Creator and Redeemer.
Remember Jeremiah 32:17
"There is nothing that You (talking about God) cannot do!"

Praying today - that each one of us will remember who has the power and strength.
Praying that we will keep our eyes and hearts and minds focused on Him and His desires and hopes for us. Praying that He WILL open the eyes of our hearts and allow us to see Him as He overcomes all that which concerns us.

We took an evening dinner cruise on the Die Moldau River (or Vlatava in Czech).
It was gorgeous!

Unfortunately my night time photos tend to be a bit blurred, but I just loved the shadows and light as they play together in this shot.

The next day we walked on that bridge.

Such sweet memories!

The quote is similar to many I have been posting of late. Going thru some rough times and I am striving to stay focused on God and depend on Him to bring us through.

I don't get too many photos of the night sky, you know ... problems with lighting.

But I came across the quote this morning, while reading January 20th Streams in the Desert Devotional.

Blessed is the Night, For it reveals the stars.

Without the darkness, we would never see the beauty of the stars.
Without the rain and storm clouds, we would never see the beauty of a rainbow.

And without struggles and fears and hard times - we may never see how God can work in our lives.

Have you heard that quote, "You talking to me??" Well I feel as though today's devotion was aimed right at me for this place and time in my life.

They are planning the budget for our next school year. They say the cuts will be worse than last year. I am VERY near the bottom. I am asking for God to be faithful to His word that says, "God will provide all I need."

Worry and fear are my companions these days.

But my heart wants to sing, Blessed be Your Name God - in good times, in bad times, in all times. You are in control. There is joy to be found in all circumstances. Help me to see it. Help me to trust you. Help me to keep my eyes on You.

Oh these words are so true! I spent the night in restless wakefulness, worrying!
This morning I feel like a wet washcloth dripping with exhaustion.

When will I learn, that God is in control . . .
He knows what is best . . .
I need to accept each day as it comes and lean on Him for strength in all things.

This morning I pray that God will allow me to see His power and strength in all things today. That I will look around and be observant to Him in everything I do, think and say.
That I will praise Him for His faithfulness and love for us all.

I missed my first post of the year, yesterday. It was a crazy day - as I had my 4th and 5th grade choruses performing in their winter concert. They had two performances yesterday, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Add the stress of that to regular everyday life, yesterday was a doozie!

But the concert was wonderful. I am SOOOO pleased with both my groups performances. My younger students have a long way to go - but the progress they have made in just the last 2 weeks is wonderful. I was very pleased with their performances yesterday.

The words in the photo above are from one of their songs, by Natalie Sleeth.

Life is very much about the journey, not only about the destination. Little steps, bit by bit ... I have to keep reminding myself!

I am so proud of my students and how they worked and came together yesterday.
Oh, I love my job!!

And it is days like yesterday when I see my kids coming to my rescue that I am also very thankful for my kids. My middle son - stepped up for me yesterday and took care of some of the taxi driving of my youngest. (There are positives to having kids who drive). I had a meeting between work and the concert and so he picked the youngest up from basketball, brought him home to shower, and then got him up to the high school so Jake could video tape the performance for me, and then get to football practice. AND my tall middle son - who loves to wear his hair over his eyes and past his jaw . . . go it all cut off yesterday!!

Oh my goodness . . he looks wonderful! I am hoping he lets me post a photo over at Composition-Life.

It is just like us, to get caught up in the day to day, always thinking about the present, often forgetting to think about the future, the days to come.

I know - I have posted many quotes that say "live one day at a time," and "Yesterday is gone, today is a gift," among others - but this thought from CS Lewis encouraged me to think again.

We are eternal beings. We are Souls, living in a land temporarily, in temporary bodies that are loaned to us, for use here. But it is the depth of our being, the very center of our thoughts and minds that display who we are.

So, looking at it that way - that each one of us is a soul . . . temporarily living life here - does that create a desire to change who you are and how you live, and what is important to you?

It surely makes me want to rethink my day to day choices and how they will reflect eternity for my soul and the souls around me.

Jim Elliot, a life we all need to be familiar with.

He wrote these words, before he died, trying to bring the gospel to the Auca Indians, sometimes known as the "Worst People on Earth".

3 years after his death, his wife and the wives of the other missionaries who were murdered, were instrumental in completing the task.

As the new year begins, I look into myself, and wonder . . . what am I struggling to hold on to, that perhaps, I need to let go of?

Can you tell that I love the cardinals. I photograph them whenever they are in the yard or at the feeders. They are so beautiful and bright.

I came across this quote by Tozer - it made me pause.

So very true. I brag and brag about my children, they are my life. They are close to my heart.

I say that I am nothing without God, and yet I find myself keeping thoughts to myself, at times. As I think back, I don't brag too much about Him.

I need to change that.

I have written it many times in the past.
We all know the saying (and perhaps the song).
One day at a time.

I actually like to make the increments a little smaller.
One moment at a time.

Before I open my mouth . . . I need to pray for wisdom.
Before I leap into action . . . I need to pray for perseverance.

I remember a 'forward' I received in an email once - that has wedged a place in my mind. I am not sure I remember it correctly, but the jist of it was something about a new fence at the back of the yard, and a young boy going out and hammering nails all over the fence. Dad came out and was very angry. The boy said, "I'm sorry" and proceeded to pull all the nails out. The apology was accepted, the nails were removed, but there was deep wounding of the fence. There were holes all over. It was scarred.

Our actions and words can have a deep impact. They often can leave scars.

Moments past are over and done, we cannot change them.
An hour from now, we have no idea where we will be or what we will be doing.
But this moment right now - we can live, we can choose, we can pray to have a lasting and positive impact on those around us.

And in this moment right now, that is what I am praying for.

Something about his writing that really makes me think. This morning's devotion brought to mind the song by Point of Grace called "God, Forbid"

Today at the forefront of my mind - I will be thinking about how casually do I approach God.

I am so impatient.

In this instantaneous world of self gratification, I find I expect to get what I want, when I want it.

As a parent - that is how we raise our children. They are taught to obey the first time. They did what I demanded, the first time. As toddlers, they did. There were consequences when they didn't. I always made sure to follow through.

But as teens, they found out they have a choice and they don't think about the consequences much.

As an adult, I find that I don't think about the consequences too much, until it is too late.

This immediate internet that I carry wherever I go, movies on demand, music at my fingertips, out of season food in my fridge world that we live in overrides the lessons I received as a child.

"Good things come to those who wait."

I used to jokingly say, "Patience is a virtue, that I do not have."

My mother always said, "Don't pray for patience, because then God will allow for situations to occur, so that you can develop it."

But when we take the time - to sit back, and wait . . . we see God move.

He is there waiting for us . . .

We need to be there . . . waiting and expecting - Him.

Every day I see us moving further and further away from the respect and sense of awe I had 'at church' when I was growing up.

Culture keeps stepping in. Reverence is disappearing.

The response is . . . " but we need to reach people where they are."

My question then becomes, "But if we keep becoming more and more like the world -
Who is left to become more and more like God?"

If I make one resolution this year, it is this -
To be Christlike in everything I do, say, and think.
God's word speaks for itself. I don't need to bait a hook to draw someone to Christ. God does that all by Himself. I just need to be there to represent Him.

I have failed miserably at that. With His help, I sure hope to do better this year.

How my heart aches, to see loved ones searching for love and joy and contentment in the world around them that is filled with immorality, vulgarity, and disregard for other people.

But I guess that is Satan's lie. And he has blinded them and taken them for fools. But they will never admit it.

How I pray that their eyes, ears, and hearts be opened and realize that true joy, and true love comes from the One who is Love. There is no joy, there is no peace, there is no salvation apart from God.

Although this time of year brings out the best in many, it also brings out the worst as we seemingly defend our faith, yet often times in a way that is not consistent with how Jesus would respond.

With talk of Holiday Trees, and Santa Claus, and getting rid of Poinsettia's in public places because they remind people of Christmas - I pray we all are strengthened by the power and compassion of Christ - to reach out and share the love of Jesus with all those we come in contact with.

May we all represent Him well.

In this month of Thanksgiving, I am so thankful to have a constant in my life.

God.

He never changes. He is always there. It is unfathomable to me ... this ... unconditional love He has for each and everyone of us. But, I am thankful and grateful beyond words.

It has been a difficult week as many of my closest loved ones are hurting. And this morning I am laying it all at the foot of the cross.

The things that I can do nothing about ...
... I know that HE CAN do something about.

I pray that He will comfort those in grief and sorrow, I pray He will sustain those who are in need, and I pray that He will bring the wayward home, strengthening them with the desire to trust and lean on Him for all they desire.

Thank you God - for Your steadfast love, Your faithfulness, and Your promises.

How blessed we are.

He has been pretty sick the last 3 days. Not sure if it is food poisoning or a stomach bug. He is the healthy one of all of us. Hardly ever sick - and recently he ate at a restaurant and came home saying it was the worst thing he ever ate . . . and has been sick ever since . . . just can't eat a thing.

Praying he is better today.

My H - continues to have the mysterious symptoms of the illness he began suffering from back in February. We had another trip to the ER this past week - with an overnight stay. We know his heart is good (in lots of ways :) just wish we could figure out what is causing all these crazy symptoms.

And so ... we continue to TRUST God to know what is best for all of us.
He holds the future in His very capable hands.
So very thankful he is so trustworthy and faithful.

It's Thursday . . .
Two more days to go till the weekend and some family time. With everyone moving in different directions during the week - sometimes it feels like being lost and alone in a desert.

And then I feel very selfish - as I know of one who is very close to me trying to do just that. Hanging on for dear life. Trying so hard to do what is right - and yet suffering in silence as a very great toll is being taken on the family.

Please be in prayer for this sister in Christ and her family. May God be praised in this situation and may a solution come to light that is agreeable and workable for everyone concerned.

I don't like cats. Maybe it is because they scare me. Something about their eyes. I am very uncomfortable around them. I especially have trouble with the ones that run freely around - spraying my outdoor furniture - marking it as their own. It stinks!

But kittens are cute and cuddly and for some reason, I don't mind them.

The other day - I saw this big blob sitting on my compost. At first I thought a raccoon, and then was worried because it was day time. But it moved and I realized it was this big fluffy cat.

I don't like it. But it does have wonderful eyes doesn't it.

Funny isn't it ... the very thing that scares me about cats - is the thing I am drawn to with this one.

I shot the photo from my deck - with my 270mm lens - so no, I didn't get to close.

Today I am very thankful for prayer!

It is so amazing to me that we have the opportunity to come before the Lord of the universe and talk to Him one on one. It is so funny how people get so excited about seeing a famous person (I do too) and yet - we forget we can have the Lord God living inside us. He is waiting for us to notice and accept and love Him.
That is much more awesome than seeing a football player or movie star!

Heaven and Earth will pass away . . .

One of the songs I sing with my students in school is the "Thankful Song."
They sing,

Then each child gets to sing a line and share what they are thankful for.

Out of the mouths of babes . . . the precious responses.

I know if we truly take time to list all of our thoughts of thanks, it would go on and on and on.

This morning I will start with one -

Colors

I am so thankful for the millions of colors that give variety to our lives.
Our God is an awesome God - to create even the minute details - full of colors!

The lyrics to the song, "Sunrise Sunset" are flitting thru my mind this morning.

Sunrise, sunset

Quickly fly the years.

One season following another.

Laden with happiness

And tears . . .

This dried up seed head - of a beautiful Queen Anne's Lace flower from this past summer is a reminder of how quickly time flies . . . but in it - I see hope for tomorrow.

One of my favorite things of this time of year - are these seed heads. There isn't much outward beauty of them now. It is brown and shriveled, even decayed in parts, but looking deeper - into the journey that it has traveled, it once had a beautiful and delicate form, pleasing to the eye, nectar for nature . . . and now in it's present state ... it is hope for the future, with the promise of many more flowers to come.

A lesson for me this morning . . . to look past outward appearances, to find beauty within that has been brought on by the experiences and journeys traveled, to see hope for the future . . . because of the promises of God.

Revelation 21:5

"Behold, I am making all things new. And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true."

I was able to get some neat photo's yesterday of the frost . . . so thankful Buffalo didn't get the snow the rest of the east coast got. Our poor trees still have not recovered from our October 13 2006 snowstorm (click words to see photos) - when leaves full on the trees - were weighted so heavy that trees could not withstand the weight and came crashing down - it looked as though a bomb had gone off - and we were without power for days! No ... I am very happy that we didn't get the snow yet.

But as I was saying - we had a nice frost yesterday - the little flower plot neat the street has some lavender, coreopsis and begonias. The begonias were completely done in. Although the coreopsis (pictured above) was encased in frost, later in the day - it was still fresh and lovely - standing strong.

I find the quote above so true - as the sun melted the frost and the flower popped up so nice and strong and lively . . . when I am feeling down in the dumps - a kind word, or thoughtful act does so much to bring me out of the funk I find myself in at times.

A reason to make sure I am a catalyst of sharing kindness . . .

Little did I know, as I created yesterday's post, that a faithful and rock solid servant lay so close to death. Never a thought for their own earthly lives this faithful servant worked side by side with her husband in places where the gospel was not always welcomed by the governments. And yet they pressed on - working with people and bringing many to the knowledge of the Saving Grace of God.

And so today I ask that you please be in prayer for her husband and family, who have been left without her. Pray for the work that continues, and thank God for a woman who was so devoted to the Lord, an example for many - who is now safely enfolded in the arms of God . . .

This is one of my favorite Fall collages. Although the photo's represent the death of summer, I see in it a representation of the promise of God's provision and the promise of spring to come.

Guess I have not done so well this year - keeping up with a post a day. I admit, I have hardly taken my camera out since getting back from Europe at the end of July. Still I am struggling with getting thru all of the photos I took - and reliving the memories. We recently got our CD's and it took me back right away to the moments I treasure in my mind.

It is almost as if I want to escape the reality of the life I live. It seems I have been hiding away, a bit - finding myself lost in the world of fiction and stories. I find I finish one book and want to being another right away. I have read about 40 books since my husband bought me my kindle back in May. Kind of sad . . .

As I look back - realize that I have read the rest of my summer away - and even the month of September.

I did get my camera out last week - and went to one of my favorite trees - and captured this moment in time. Already one week later - the colors behind the tree have turned a more dismal brown and grey.

As we approach the long season of cold and darkness (when one would desire to hide away with a good book in front of the fireplace), I find I want to be back out in the life of the living - not hidden away in another time and place -

But I admit - it was the last books I have read that helped me to realize I wasn't created to hide myself away.

I have really enjoyed reading Lynn Austin's God's and Kings: Chronicles of the Kings # 1 (Friday and Saturday) and then yesterday and this morning read book #2 Song of Redemption. The story of Hezekiah in the old testament.

Oh, I know it is a fictional account and at times - some of the writings pull me out of the 'time and place' (for example: she referred to one of the characters stating that he had read the "book of Job" . . . did they even know what a 'book' was back then??) - but the desire was kindled in me to research Hezekiah - read the biblical account - read the historical accounts- see how Isaiah's prophecies fit into those moments in time - these books are a catalyst to make me search for the truth . .

"Hear, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord is one,"

Words repeated over and over thru out the book. Burning a question in my mind - how many things in my life - are crowding Him out? And so the words that came to me today as I looked at the photo of my tree -

God loves us, God wants us, that is reality. He waits for us. If we only humble ourselves before Him - He will lift us up and enable us to do the work He has called us to do.

But we need to let Him . . .

I've been missing in action for a bit, so many photo's to process from the trip and not wanting to spend the hours needed in front of the computer. School has started. The first week (okay ... it was really only four days) is under our belt. Looks like it will be another wonderful year of encouraging and making kids feel special.

My oldest son - had a CD release concert last night and is suppose to work with a producer from the west coast at the end of the month. Their music just keeps getting better and better. Tall One is a freshman in college, has his own car and is working a part time job. He seems to be loving it. Young One is a Sophomore in High School, playing JV Football, playing fall baseball, a percussionist in the top band and this year is in the top choral ensemble as well.

My H and I have been able to enjoy some time to ourselves in the past weeks. Reminding me how important it is to cultivate and cherish and work at the relationships we have. Talking to one another, spending time with one another, knowing one another's thoughts and interests and working together to keep that relationship healthy.

That's how it should be with God. Spending time with Him, spending time in His Word, Getting to know His heart and what he wants for us, treasuring His love and provisions for us, are all ways to build our relationship with Him.

Rituals are often done mindlessly - just to complete the task. There is no love involved. I have often equated religion with ritualism. Even just getting up and going to church - because that is what you are supposed to do -

But that isn't what God wants of us. He wants to know us - and wants us to know Him. And He is more than worthy of the time and effort it takes to keep our relationship with Him healthy.

I am working on my relationship with Him - and thankful that He is always there and waiting for us to turn to Him and just accept the love and gifts he is waiting to give to us.

I will not deny the fact that I was totally in awe of the cathedrals in Europe. They were magnificent. They were so very old. They were gorgeous. They were filled with the music of ages past, played by the masters who created the music. They were filled with statues of saints and tombs of great leaders.

But when I sang the song "Glory to God" with the choir in the different cathedrals and church's - even though I reveled in the beauty around me and the sound that carried up to the rafters - my thoughts were on the One who I was praising in the song.

It is so easy to get carried away in the history and the magnificence of the buildings we were in and focus on the idols and obscene wealth within each of the buildings and start worshiping the beauty itself.

But I am thankful and grateful to the God to whom those buildings were built - the One who made it possible for us to travel safely and see these wonders, the One who is my Lord and Savior.

And for that I am forever in His debt.

As I said recently, the flowers in Europe are much the same as what we have here in Western New York. You know how I love daisy's! I couldn't resist this shot - and the thought of how rain is refreshing to the soul, and how even though our trip was so exhausting - it too refreshed me in many ways.

A very small portion of the gardens in the back of Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria. A gorgeous place, to be sure. One thing I noticed was that the flowers we have here, are the same ones they have there. Marigolds, begonias, lavenders, geraniums, dusty miller, and petunia's abound. It is the lay out of that makes them so very spectacular.

I like the quote, I came across this morning, as I poured thru all of my photos. So many statues and fountains and carvings all over where we visited - and how true ... the diligence of the sculptor, hammering away, always one 'hit' away from the crack that devastates the artwork.

It makes me think of those who take the chances and go out on a limb, to live the lives they dream of. Taking a chance to create something beautiful, taking a chance to be the best they can. It is a lot of hard work as they live life on the edge.

I don't do that too often. I don't take chances - and I know I miss out on a lot.

I am glad I didn't miss out on this trip.

This photo was taken somewhere between the cities of Salzburg and Westendorf in Austria. It is of course of the Alps. Although I can never say how thankful I am to have been a part of this once in a lifetime tour - for my son and I - and the whole Empire Band and Chorus, it can be a challenge when touring with 100 other people, in the sense that - you can't always get the photo shots that you want and how you want them.

You are forever at the mercy of the group (and for good reason when traveling with a large group of high school students). The staff is always concerned with their safety and of course staying together and keeping on the rigorous schedule. So often ... my photos were taken thru the window of the coach, or had lots of people in them (who I didn't know) as we, most of the time - didn't stop for photo opportunities - we quickly had to snap and keep up.

Although that is a great disadvantage for a photographer, it is a great way to get a taste of the different areas - and Lord willing - if you ever have the chance to go back - you can go to those areas you tasted - and really liked - and then have to time to really explore.

This photo was shot thru the window of the coach, as we were driving. The majesty of our surroundings were indescribable. The power of God as seen thru His amazing and beautiful creation.

I was in awe . . .

I am Back!!

Just a quick post to let you know all is well and my son and I returned from our European Tour very early this morning at 2 am. I took so many pictures (1800) and have lots to weed thru. I will be posting on our trip over at COMPOSITION LIFE as well as using photos here from the trip.

Can't wait to share the trip with you - thru the photos.

God is awesome!
Everyone is safe and sound - everything went very smoothly. There was an accident that involved the bus my son and I were on (there were 2 buses carrying 100 of us) but no one was injured - and Kudos to our bus driver who by swerving- avoided killing the driver of the car who did not stop at a stop light and ran into us.

Even the plane rides and 26 hours on the bus as we toured Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic were perfect with no anxiety on my part at all.

Working thru my jet lag, unpacking, and getting used to being home - then I will share it all with you!

Tomorrow is THE VERY big day. The last 3 days have been of preparation and rehearsal. Tomorrow we begin the very long journey.

I ask for your prayers - for the peace of Christ to envelope me, for his arms to comfort and calm me (and Jake), that he would strengthen me to endure the long hours and days ahead, and please for safety and protection all around us.

We are in the midst of a baseball tournament in Ontario this weekend. Lot's of travel back and forth over the border and lots of baseball games! We are 3 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie. Semi finals and championship today -

Just praying there are no injuries and no ugly games - we had a real tough one yesterday with coaches (from the other team) screaming at one of the umpires (who seriously had the strike zone the size of an eye of a needle) and getting thrown out of the games - very tension filled - and it was all for what??? a 14 year old baseball game??

Seriously ... priorities need to be in place!

Read an extremely thought provoking book this weekend written by Gene Edwards (Click his name to go to a list of his books). "The Prisoner in the Third Cell." It is a book about John the Baptist. Not your run of the mill fictional account of a biblical hero - but a deep insight into possibly thoughts that went thru his head after completely devoting his life to the King of Kings and then facing the end of his life as he did.

Yes, it is fiction, but it raised some good and thoughtful questions about the suffering in this life. A short book. I bought it for my kindle.

The words "And blessed are you if you are not offended with me" at first are confusing, and then comforting.

After reading it - I realized Gene Edwards was the author of "A Tale of Three Kings" which was another amazing book I read several years ago. That one was about Saul, David and Absalom. Definitely 2 books that are 'quick reads' but definitely worth your time and will stay with you as you ponder the hurt and the feelings of abandonment we often feel when our prayers are not answered as we hope they would be.

I don't usually use people in my photo's on this site, but as we were walking back from our dinner with my husbands family, this past weekend, this precious photo of my husband and his brother with his 18 month old son called to me.

How special those moments are, when our kids are so small and dependent upon us, to hold them up and protect them. Ironically, we were walking back from a celebration of their sister's son and our son, who both graduated from high school and will shortly be pulling those hands away from us as they continue to strive for independence.

It's okay. That is what we raise our children to be. Independent.

I just pray that their hands will always reach toward their heavenly Father - for support and strength in good times and bad. I pray they always remember that He is always there with a hand held out to them.
